Job: Suffering, Faith, and the Wisdom of God – Ben Hardesty (Kitchen)

The book of Job raises some of life’s hardest questions: Why do the righteous suffer? How should we respond when God’s ways are painful or mysterious? How can faith endure in the midst of deep loss? In this course, we will survey the book of Job and explore its major theological themes, including how it points us to Christ. We will explore topics such as how Job teaches us to care for those who suffer, how to speak wisely in times of grief, how believers can glorify God in the midst of fiery trials, and how to respond to the problem of evil and suffering.

The Easy Yoke of Christ – Jodi Billheimer  (Women’s Class – Library)

Corrie Ten Boom once said, “If the devil can’t make you sin, he’ll make you busy.” Unfortunately, rushing from one hurried thing to the next is often seen as an unavoidable part of life, even in Christian culture. But is this how God intended for us to live our lives? Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest… For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” In this class, we will accept Jesus’ invitation to learn from his example a new way of bearing responsibilities and shouldering the weight of life, and aim to step out of burnout society into a life of soul rest.

Covenantal Baptism: Why Aren’t We Baptists, Anyway?  Josiah Forton (Youth Room)

Most debates surrounding baptism usually focus on considerations such as household baptisms or the comparison between baptism and circumcision. But is this the right place to start? While these considerations are important, it will be the assertion of this class that these issues are all downstream from a more fundamental one, namely, the Biblical definition of covenant. How has God chosen to covenant with us? The headwaters of the debate are not whether our baptisms are credo (believer) or paedo (infant); rather, it is whether they are individual or covenantal.
